If you’re like most men, once you hit your thirties or later in midlife, you find yourself without a group of close, trusted men like you had in high school or college. You may have drinking buddies but when push comes to shove, those guys usually aren’t there for you. Drinking buddies are just that and they probably care very little about your success and your relationships.
There are many reasons why, as a man, you need other men in your life and I’m going to touch on three of the biggest reasons here.
1) Men Can Relate to Your Problems
We all need an audience and a place that we can take our problems, challenges and issues in life. Men, simply because they are men can relate to what you’re going through. Many men will have been where you are, experienced similar problems and pain and be able to lend support if you ask for it. Even if they haven’t been through what you’re going through, just talking it out with other men you trust can give you the strength to carry on as well as new ideas to move your forward.
2) Validation
It is important to look to men for validation of your manhood and where you are going in life. Men communicate in more of a straight forward and blunt manner which is what most of us need to hear. If you constantly look to the women in your life for validation you’ll end up feeling hollow since women aren’t equipped in the same way men are to help guide you. Only the masculine can validate your masculinity.
3) Getting Your Mojo Back
Women can certainly motivate us but as men, we also need the energy and camaraderie that comes from spending time with other men. Being with the men reminds and connects you with your masculine power. It provides you with the energy of having a support team behind you and gives you that push to go back out into the world and do what you are meant to do.
So there you have it. Three reasons to find and develop a group on men in your life that have your back and you can trust. Remember that it takes commitment to get to that point but the rewards are priceless. If you’re looking for a men’s group in your area simply Google it, search Meetup.com and check local bulletin boards. I’ll be starting a group by phone in August as well so if you’re interested in that drop me an email or comment below. Cheers.
