Life Olympics for men – part 3

In parts 1 and 2 of this post, we talked about how to make your life a gold medal winning performance through a process called The Passion Test, by Janet and Chris Attwood. It’s a set of simple exercises that clarify the five most important things in your life. Of course once that is revealed, the question becomes what to do with this critical information.

We spend so many hours everyday exerting effort that contributes to other peoples’ goals, whether it’s the company we work for or the people in our lives. Without knowing it, if we’re not focused and intentional, the things that are most important end up at the bottom of the priority list and never get attention. That’s why so many men feel like something is missing in their lives. That spark of youth and motivation has long been extinguished by the burden of doing what we think we’re supposed to do, not what we’re born to do.

The good news is that the economics have changed and the models of the 25 year factory job or the huge corporation where you simply fall in line and do what you’re told are crumbling and pointing to a new day where it’s easier than ever to create your ideal life. Easier doesn’t mean easy, it just means a huge range of new opportunities for you to define your own success and pursue it. Men have never been afraid of hard work, and now, armed with the knowledge of what’s most important in your life from The Passion Test, it’s time to put in the work towards your gold medal life.

As far as putting your newfound knowledge into practice, it comes down to a couple of simple questions. Are you going to do what you feel you can to make it happen or are you going to do whatever it takes? When you’re in a spot where you have to make a decision or a choice, you now have a roadmap – decide and choose in favor of your top passions. Even after a week the difference is noticeable. Can you imagine where you’d be after six months, or a year of following this plan of action? Many clients are reaping these rewards and the increased energy that goes with it.

Unlike the Olympic Games that capture our imagination every four years, the gold medals we get in life are not really about competing against others for one prize. We all have our own definitions of prosperity and happiness. We all have unique and different passions to inform the direction of our lives. What is the same is that it always takes a decision…a decision to go for your gold medal or to remain a spectator in the stands. Your medal podium is right there in front of you. Are you going to step up?
