Marketing your blog is obviously critical. One of the ways to ensure that more and more people in your target market know about it is to make sure that those who do check it out sign up to receive your posts. If they become raving fans of your content, you can bet they will direct others your way.
In order to make the most of a new visitor to your blog, first and foremost your content has to be great or else you’re just another 3 seconds of their day wasted and they’ll move on.
Assuming you have great content, the key point is then to have multiple places for them to opt-in to your list. Yes Virginia, the whole reason for your blog to is build your list. So give them different options and make then visible and give them something in return.
Here are four ways I do it:
- If you notice on thinktankmen.com, when you go to the site, immediately you see in the upper right corner a free marketing report, which is my bribe for visitors to sign up for my list. It’s a good report and specifically developed for my target market.
- After you’re on the site for seven seconds, a pop-up comes on and asks you to sign up for the blog and get your free marketing report. It’s right there in front of your face, you either have to sign up or click close to continue reading the blog. This can be very effective. Some people overdo this tactic – if you set your pop-up to keep appearing you’ll drive people away – don’t be a dumbass about it, put yourself in their shoes.
- At the bottom of my home page, I have another section that asks them to sign up for the blog and in return get my report.
- Lastly, once they’ve clicked on a blog post to read the entire thing and are taken to that page, once again, at the bottom once they’ve finished reading, there is the opportunity to sign up and receive the free report.
There you have it. To drive traffic and build your list, tell your visitors what you want them to do, and give them a reason to do it in additions to your killer content. Figure out what they need and make it your free offer, then make sure you make it easy for them to see and sign up.
Some Next Steps:
-Leave your comments and questions below. What did I miss? Tell me what you’re doing.
-Take a second to retweet this out, the button is right there and I’d really appreciate it!
Cheers! Michael
